Fashionistas far and wide are gearing up for the fourth edition of African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT). One of the city’s most anticipated fashion events, presented by the Fashion Ready Foundation, AFWT brings together student and high fashion designers, fashion industry professionals, and attendees looking to network from all areas for an exciting and exhilarating four days of magic.
#AFWT2016 will commence on Thursday, August 18th with an annual red carpet Opening Soiree featuring live entertainment by local DJs and performances by the Ascension Groove Band. The hailed events will continue the following three days with diverse fashion festivities and plenty of networking opportunities and after parties throughout the week.
Friday, August 19th – A Student Designer Competition showcasing local student designers’ fashion lines.
Saturday, August 20th – Three High Fashion Runway Showcases by the best and brightest African-inspired fashion designers from Canada and around the world – including Montreal based haute couture designer and this year’s Fashion Trailblazer Award Recipient, Helmer Joseph.
Sunday, August 21st – Fashion Talk, a television discussion analyzing “The Business of Fashion” with a live studio audience, sponsored & hosted by International Journalist & Media Consultant, Dr. Jefferson Sackey.
The evening and event will culminate with the 3rd annual African Fashion Industry Awards (AFIA) including Herieth Paul (Maybelline New York Global Spokesperson) with the Model Excellence Award. MuchMusic Video Awards winning alumnus and Juno nominated R&B/Soul recording artist Ray Robinson will be the headlining performer this year. The awards ceremony will close off with a spectacular runway show by celebrity designer and “King of Couture,” Adebayo Jones.
As one of the most recognized fashion weeks in Canada, the multicultural AFWT platform supports Toronto’s unique and diverse cultural heritage while contributing to the fashion and tourism market of Canada and abroad. The event was created to attract key industry players, relevant business associates, local and international celebrities, media houses, key government officials and many other prominent attendees.
